Happy Birthday, Church!

Dear WTUC Family,

I hope that you had a wonderful week, and we’re coming up on a special festive day in the life of the one Holy Catholic (Universal) Church - Pentecost Sunday! We celebrate the day the Holy Spirit came down, poured out upon the believers in Jerusalem as promised by Jesus Christ, and we recognize that as the Church’s birthday. In that spirit, we are going to have a special joint service this Sunday with our sisters and brothers at Mitaka Lutheran Church! The service will start at 10:30 a.m., and we will be observing the Lord’s Supper during the service. We are working to make sure that both Japanese and English speakers will feel welcome during the service. We will be gathering at the chapel on the campus of Japan Lutheran College and Theological Seminary. For details on how to get there, you can look at the calendar event here!

We are also preparing for Celebration Sunday taking place on Sunday, June 22! We have so much to celebrate as the Lord has guided us over this past year and through the lives of many over the past few decades. Please mark your calendars as we get ready for this special Sunday! We will be gathering for worship in Room 105 at Japan Lutheran College and Theological Seminary at 11:00 a.m., followed by a move off-site for our special fellowship hour. Make sure to mark your calendars for this!

As we get close to the end of our WTUC calendar year this month, I would like for you to prayerfully consider how you may be able to serve in the life of our church. This coming year is the 60th anniversary of the founding of West Tokyo Union Church. If you are able to help us in ministry, whether in youth and kids programs, or helping out with setup and tech, or something else, please prayerfully consider this over the next few weeks. You can learn more about areas where you can serve by visiting out this page.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, and see you on Sunday. Don’t forget to wear red or something that represents your home country!

Blessings,
Jonathan
