The King Comes!

Dear WTUC Family,

I hope that you are getting a chance to get out to see the cherry blossoms that are unfolding around West Tokyo. As the warmer spring weather is leading to the unfolding of these white and pink flowers, we are being reminded once again of the season of new life that is taking place. I hope that you get a chance to catch a glimpse of these blossoms over the next few days.

Coming up Sunday, we are entering Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday. We are going to be gathering in person on the campus of Japan Lutheran College and Theological Seminary Room 105 for our worship service. We look forward to reflecting on the day when Christ entered triumphantly into Jerusalem. As the King comes, what does it mean for us? Please come join us starting at 11:00 a.m. for our worship service followed by a time of fellowship. If you are a regular attender, we ask that you bring a snack or finger food to share. For more information, please check out the calendar event.

We have mentioned this before, but the youth will be gathering after the Sunday service at Nogawa Park for a Cherry Blossom Picnic! This will begin at 12:30 p.m., and if you haven’t been in touch with us about coming, send an email to youth@wtuc.net so that we can be on the lookout for you!

As we go through Holy Week, some of you may want to participate in Maundy Thursday or Good Friday services. Our sister congregation in central Tokyo, Tokyo Union Church, will be holding services both days at 7:30 p.m. You can visit them in person at Omotesando or join online.

Easter Sunday is coming up after that on April 5! We will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt at 10:15 a.m., followed by the worship service with communion at 11:00 a.m. We then will have a group photo before heading to the cafeteria for a special fellowship hour. We ask those who regularly attend to bring a dessert for that day. We will also be gathering our special Easter Offering for Second Harvest Japan. More details can be found here.

I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday! Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Blessings,
Jonathan
